In Ländern – wie z.B. Südafrika, Nigeria und Kenia -, die eigentlich mit gutem Beispiel vorangehen sollten, mußte der Kampf gegen die Korruption durch habgierige und skrupellose Politiker schwere Rückschläge erleiden. In Burundi und der Demokratischen Republik Kongo wurden Antikorruptionsaktivisten sogar ermordet.
