Ikea: VÄVA
1. Juli 2009 | Von atsil2 | Kategorie:English Live Green n CleanIKEA or not IKEA? I guess the debate will continue for the next century or so. In the meantime, a new product by the company has caught our eye and heart.
Six weeks ago, IKEA showcased its brand new PS Collection at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in NY. The PS line of the company is a sincere attempt to produce and design with responsibility to the environment.
Or as the company puts it:
“specifically designed around the company’s strong ethical and environmental policy, using recycled materials and cutting down on packaging where possible.”
OK then. The VÄVA is a pendant lamp made from carefully folded palm leaves.
Designed by Wiebke Braasch, the lamp is inspired by an image from her childhood of dried sea urchins. The ceiling canopy of the light is also sustainably manufactured. The steel cup is powder-coated, and all of the overspray colored powder can be reused and does not contain any Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).
The price on the VÄVA, that will probably be launched this summer in Europe, is 69 € resp. £55.
