Stylish Bamboo Bike
14. Mai 2008 | Von atsil | Kategorie:English Read the WorldYou would expect a bike made out of bamboo to be a little cheaper than one with an alloy frame, Well, Calfee design, a company that specializes in building bicycle frames, is offering its own bamboo bike, and guess what? It’s pricey.
The frame costs between $1500 and $4500, but each frame is unique and custom made. And while the looks of the bike are staggering, it is appropriate for everyday use and racing. The bamboo tubes are selected to support the weight of the rider and come in Finish of Black Bamboo, a natural oil that gets rubbed on with a cloth to obtain a beautiful, semi-gloss finish.
The Calfee Bamboo Bike was awarded the People’s Choice Award at the 2004 North American Handmade Bicycle Show in Houston. But the prize was not just for beauty: the Bamboo Bike’s features include amazing vibration damping, which performs even better than carbon fiber; a high performance frame which weighs about 4 pounds; and impressive crash tolerance. Bamboo is a lot of tougher than people realize, and it looks cool too!
