Fashion for Darfur
17. Juli 2007 | Von nana | Kategorie: Genozid in Darfur, Support Humanity! The renowned fashion-designer Michael Michalsky knows what’s cool - that’s what he proved during his long-time assignment for Adidas Originals and Levi’s.
With his expressive t-shirt-design for the campagne Rettetdarfur.de, he shows that humanitarian commitment is more than cool.
His message is simple:
“I see the t-shirt as a cool wearable billboard , advertising the webpage, so that more people can get informed.”
His design shows the African continent, a peace keeper with a flag, a red heart representing Darfur, a symbol for love, compassion and bloodshed and the lettering: Michalsky für RettetDarfur.de.
His source of inspiration are protest-t-shirts with cult-status, like the ones of Live Aid and Katherine Hamnett.
This upcoming Saturday the trendsetter will invite 800 guests to his fashion show during Berlin fashion week - after the show they will receive a goody bag with his T-shirt for Darfur.
He is aware of the power of fashion and hopes to live up to the expectations as ambassador of the campagne RettetDarfur.de.
“If I can sensitize people for the catastrophe and if those people can make others aware, then one day there will be very many people and then those responsible must act.”
As a Christian his engagement for Darfur is not political, but simply a question of etics.
In his interview, he says, that not everybody has the luck to be born in the right place - and if someone, whether famous or not, is on the bright side of life because of luck, coincidence or talent, they have the duty to use the system in a positive way.
When it comes to RettetDarfur.de, he is not alone with his commitment.
The model Eva Padberg, also known for her work for UNHCR, has recently joined a photo session with the designer, to give the campagne a strong face.
